Criminology is the multidisciplinary, scientific, broad-based study of crime, criminal behavior, and social reactions to crime and criminal behavior. The Certificate in Criminology provides students with theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to work in the criminal justice system. It examines current sociological, psychological, and legal issues in the study of crime and criminal justice, crime, criminality, and deviance and the law today and in the past.
This program should be of particular interest to persons engaged in law enforcement, corrections, private security, and rehabilitation services. It is available to criminal justice majors, qualified non-majors in related fields, and practitioners in the field of criminal justice who are not regularly enrolled.
This certificate is awarded to students who complete the required courses with an accumulated grade point average of 2.0 or higher. Andrew Jackson University coursework completed to meet the requirements of a previously-awarded certificate may be applied toward this certificate. No more than 50% of the certificate program can be earned through transfer credit or credit-by-examination. Credit awarded for experiential learning is not applicable to a certificate program. |
